Northwest Biotherapeutics Presents New Data on its Approach for the Treatment of Solid Tumors

Bothell, Washington - June 18, 2003 - Northwest Biotherapeutics, Inc. (NWBT.OB) today announced that it presented new, positive data from the evaluation of its DCVax®-Direct Adjuvant Cancer Therapy product candidate at the Fourth International Expert Meeting on Clinical Immunotherapy held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on June 13-16, 2003. DCVax®-Direct Adjuvant Cancer Therapy is designed to be a single therapeutic for all solid tumors.

"This new animal model data is very encouraging," stated Dr. Marnix Bosch, the Company's vice president of vaccine development. "It confirms our earlier animal data showing the regression of solid tumors injected with DCVax®-Direct in combination with chemotherapy. The data also suggests that DCVax®-Direct generates an active immunity in the animal that prevents the establishment of secondary tumors." Dr. Bosch's presentation also contained new information that this immunization effect is dependent on the maturation state of the injected dendritic cells.

Dr. Bosch further stated, "Immature dendritic cells do not prove capable of creating long-term immunization in our model. However, partially mature dendritic cells appear to confer longer term protection in the animal against further tumor establishment and growth. This has important implications for the significance of our recently unveiled tangential flow filtration manufacturing system. It is less costly than traditional approaches for generating dendritic cells and it allows us to control dendritic cell maturation to generate the partially mature cells showing the most therapeutic potential."
